Needs for the Active Duty Soldier

When it comes to the physical and mental fitness of today’s military communities, key elements that are usually focused on within Physical Training exercises are: Consistency, Endurance and Cardiovascular health.

These are key elements for an active military soldier to perform not only their physical duties but these skills are also necessary in completing their day-to-day tasks, as each soldier works to help their unit accomplish their mission.

Common needs that the military is trying to address within their communities are to also include the need for balance and overall wellness: mind, body, and relationships to self and others.

But how do we begin to tackle these added self-betterment tools when our military men & women are already working hard to accomplish their first tasks?

At TRIBE, we believe and have seen that there actually already is a synonymous and overall wellness mentality that the military has begun to set up for the active military—it just takes a little extra knowledge and consideration of the physical and mental needs that today’s soldiers’ have to address their current tasks in a more balanced, mindful and resiliency-building way.

Yoga became a space of non-judgment and gratitude that I wasn’t getting anywhere else in my life...[I] was completely stressed all the time-just going, going, going. But when I practiced yoga, I could be myself and invest in slowing down, which actually helped me speed up my career path as a professional in the military.
— Lieutenant Colonel Jannell MacAulay. Interview in Yoga Journal, Sept 2018.
